“May you live in interesting times.”
It sounds like a curse, but I like to think it is a blessing.
I’m a University of Wisconsin journalism student, hailing from Muskego, Wis., a suburb of Milwaukee.
I live in Madison, Wis., where I strictly adhere to AP style and enjoy reporting, good music, coffee and curious things I find on the internet. I woefully admit I never stuck with the Spanish language, but I am well-versed in German.
While my scope of travel is somewhat limited– Germany, France and Washington D.C.–I’ve been lucky enough to have the Wisconsin Capitol protests take place in my backyard. Literally. Cars often drove past my house near the Capitol Square at all hours of the night honking the “This-is-What-Democracy-Looks-Like” chant. I’ve camped in the Rotunda, and can attest to the fact that government buildings are spooky at 3 a.m.
We live in interesting times. Hopefully here you will find a bit of insight through a Midwest student’s lens.
